The Banana King is a pirate, who had been stranded in Banana Land for many years.

Appearance

He has a big grey afro covered by a black tricorn hat with a symbol of a banana. He sports a grey forked beard, an eyepatch, and two peg-legs. He is usually seen smoking cigars, and he has a parrot on his shoulder.

His ghost appearance was created using an old technique known as "Pepper's Ghost". He appears with a blue-ish transparent pitch, and his parrot is no longer in his shoulder. A cigar is still in his mouth, but he cannot smoke it. This is an aspect he constantly complains about.

Personality

He is known to be sarcastic, cynical and lewd. His speaking roles always were an excuse to introduce very dark humor and jokes that were not appropriate for a children's show. However, these comments were completely unscripted, and were inserted by his voice actor.

He is also quite adept at fortune-telling, and the Laughingstock crew occasionally go to him to get information on treasure.

Notable Episodes

  • In "The King of Banana Land", the Laughingstock Crew travel to Banana Land in search of treasure, and meet the Banana King. He explains to them he became shipwrecked on this island, and all of his crew were eaten alive by the Banana People. He has survived for years by controlling the Banana People with a magic staff that he found. But this staff put a curse upon him, meaning he will die if he leaves the island. He asks the Laughingstock crew to help him break the curse, but their efforts are futile and he is eaten by the Banana People. Poppy invites his ghost to join his crew and "haunt" the ship, which he accepts.
  • In "The Treasure is Lost", the Laughingstock crew find a treasure map left behind by other pirates in the Salty Sea. The Banana King displays his fortune-telling abilities by helping them decipher the treasure map.
  • In "Milo", the Banana King makes a joke about giving up pirating after Milo joins the crew. He is then never seen again.

Trivia

  • In future episodes after his introduction, his appearances are mostly as a background character.
  • He claims his ghost remained in Candle Cove because Death refused to take his soul.
  • Even though he is called "The Banana King", his kingdom is an island full of bananas and his subjects are a sentient banana-like tribe, it is implied that he hates bananas.
